Pain is not the most common sign that you’ll need a tooth filling. This post will help you understand why it’s important to detect a dental cavity and treat it at an early stage.
Dental cavity or tooth decay can be on tooth surface that is visible to the eye or hidden between our teeth. Cavities start small and are usually painless. The visible ones appear as dark spots on the top or outside surface of teeth. These spots are not necessarily cavities; they can be stains. Call your dentist to help you examine your teeth and give you the proper treatment.
Cavities between your teeth, which are very common can only be detected with X-rays at your dental visits. That’s why it is highly recommended to visit the dentist at least every 6 months and get x-rays of your teeth taken once or twice a year based on your needs.
Do not wait until you have a toothache to get a filling because at that point your tooth will likely need more than just a filling (I’ll cover that in other posts). Get your teeth checked regularly and call your dentist to make an appointment if you suspect a tooth cavity.
